Ba CityFlyer in association with FTEJerez yesterday launched their latest MPL Mentored Airline Pilot Scheme which will take budding pilots from zero hours to the right-hand seat of one of their Embraer aircraft based in the United Kingdom.
The BA CityFlyer MPL Cadet Pilot programme provides all the necessary training required to enable you to become qualified on the Embraer aircraft type.
Steve Cook, Head of Flight Operations at BA CityFlyer had this to say about the newly launched scheme:
Welcome to the Mentored Airline Pilot Scheme and MPL course run in conjunction with BA CityFlyer, a wholly owned subsidiary of British Airways. I am Captain Steve Cook, Head of Flight Operations, charged by the airline to manage the training of flight deck crews.
This Mentored Scheme has been developed with our training partner, FTEJerez, to provide a source of quality pre-selected pilots to crew our Embraer aircraft. You will undertake training under the Multi-crew Pilots Licence (MPL) route to the right-hand seat of our aircraft. This course has been specifically designed to teach you all of the key elements necessary for you to successfully transition to a BA CityFlyer flight deck.
During your training in Jerez, your progress will be mentored throughout the course by the BA CityFlyer Liaison Pilot. As the final phase of this course, students will undergo an Embraer Type Rating course paid by the airline.
Selection for this cohort will follow the same format and battery of tests as in previous FTEJerez schemes. We are looking for up to 6 mentored pilots who will be offered positions on courses commencing training at Jerez on the 17th of November 2017. This scheme is run on an annual basis.
The prospects within the airline for pilot progression are excellent and the routes we fly are both challenging and rewarding.
May I take this opportunity to wish you every success with your application and the selection process.
We are looking for high calibre, well-motivated individuals who are keen to be part of a team working for one of Europe’s most prestigious regional airlines.
To be eligible for this scheme you must have a minimum of 2 A-Level passes, Grade C or above (or equivalent), and have 5 GCSE passes including Maths, English and a Science subject at Grade C or above, as well as the right to live and work in the UK.
Candidates will be able to apply between the 5th and 18th of June 2017 inclusive. Should you meet initial criteria you will be forwarded, via email, a series of questions that must be returned within the specified period.
Should your application be successful in progressing to the next phase you will be required to travel, at your own expense, to BA CityFlyer’s headquarters at Manchester. Currently, this one-day selection phase is expected to take place between the 10th and the 13th of July 2017 inclusive.
The final element of the selection process will be a BA CityFlyer airline interview. This will, once again, take place in Manchester between the 2nd and the 4th of August 2017 inclusive.
Course Cost and Structure:
If successful, you will have to fund FTEJerez’s MPL programme.
The price for this course is GBP £89,100.
The price is inclusive of the following:

Benefit to the student
Throughout the training, the BA CityFlyer cadet’s performance will not only be monitored by FTEJerez’s training team, but there will also be an oversight by BA CityFlyer’s assigned Liaison Pilot.
If successful throughout the training at FTEJerez, no further selection will be required by BA CityFlyer and you will flow straight into an Embraer type rating course as a part of the MPL training.
