Who are the Air League?

The Air League is a trust set up to ‘Help Britain’s aviation and aerospace industry take to the skies’. The trust, in association with organisations such as The Honourable Company of Air Pilots, Aerobility and the Royal Academy of Engineering offer a number of scholarships year-on-year to enable people to either get in to flying or expand their skills. Over the last decade, the The Air League has allocated scholarships worth over £2 million to young people from all backgrounds and all parts of the UK.

What is on offer for 2018?

Each year they offer a range of flying, engineering and gliding scholarships, along with flying bursaries. 2018 is the same.

When do applications open for 2018?

Unfortunately the closing date for 2018 scholarships has now passed, however, more scholarships will be announced and available from October 2018 for the year 2019, be sure to check back then or check out the available bursaries below!

Are there any bursaries available?

Yes, there are still fixed-sum bursaries sufficient to cover between 3 and 5 hours of flying, available for single-engine piston aircraft. The bursaries are intended for those that may already hold a PPL or LAPL to either further their experience or renew their licence and ratings.

  • Applicants must hold a current PPL issued by the CAA
  • Must be a permanent UK resident.
  • Must be a member of The Air League or be applying to become a member at the time of the application.

Applications will close on the 16th February 2018. All information will be considered and the decision will be made by a selection board, there is no interview or assessment required.

Please make sure you include copies of all relevant documents and all of the application form or you may not be considered.

Bursary winners will be notified by post in May/June 2018.
